In the 1990s, the beloved television series Beverly Hills, 90210, garnered critical acclaim and a devoted following over the course of its 10-season run. The show's ensemble cast was comprised of numerous household names, and it initially followed the experiences of siblings Brandon and Brenda Walsh, as well as their circle of friends, as they navigated the ups and downs of adolescence, university life, and beyond.
Since the show went on for 10 seasons, there must have been plenty of drama and behind-the-scenes secrets that could easily be more interesting than the actual show. Thankfully Vanity Fair has finally delivered all the juicy details we've been eager to hear about!
Beverly Hills, 90210 was the longest-running show that Aaron Spelling produced. Original episodes were aired from 1990 to 2000. Darren Star, the creator of the show, went on to create a few other memorable TV shows such as Melrose Place and Sex and the City.
Even though the show was based in Beverly Hills, and the famous friend group attended “West Beverly High School,” the crew actually filmed in Torrance, California, at Torrance High School.
With the showing running as long as it did, it isn’t a surprise that none of the original cast members appeared in all 296 episodes. One of the cast members wasn’t even wanted for more than two episodes but he became a familiar face.
The character Dylan McKay, who was played by Luke Perry, wasn’t supposed to be a regular character, but Aaron Spelling fought to keep him on the show. There were rumors that Aaron paid Luke’s salary out of pocket to keep him on.

With the show becoming so popular so fast, Jennie Garth suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks from the fame she gained at only 19 years old. Speaking of Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Aaron’s daughter, was often in the middle of a bitter feud that Jennie had with costar Shannen Doherty.
Shannen was supposedly fired for constantly fighting with both the cast and the crew. What really caused the end of her role, though, was her dramatic haircut halfway through a finale shoot, which messed up the continuity of the episode!
