Anyone who moved as a child or teen knows how hard it is to keep in touch with friends from home.
Nowadays, people can connect over social media immediately. In the past, though, it was much harder to stay in contact with old friends, especially if they lived in another state or country.
Even just 20 years ago, the best way to keep in touch with friends and family was through handwritten letters — and these took days or weeks to reach their final destinations.
When Carl Warner and Abby Deutsch became friends in high school, they imagined they'd be friends forever.
When they parted ways after graduation, they promised to stay in touch. They wrote letters and called each other on the phone, but didn't see one another in person for 70 years.

The two friends told their story on the Facebook page Love What Matters, where it's gotten over 7,500 reactions and almost 500 shares.

Two friends who have not seen each other in 70 years were just reunited in LA…
92-year-old Carl Warner — who worked as a foreign correspondent for ABC, NBC, and CBS covering the Civil Rights movement, jailed in Cuba, and shot in Venezuela — reconnected with his lifelong friend 91-year-old Abby Deutsch, who met Carl when she was 16 years old in Miami Beach High School.
Over the years, they have shared letters and phone calls. The two grew closer after both of their spouses passed away.
Although it’s been over 70 years since they were last together, they feel as if they were the same teens who met in the 1940s.
The wish was arranged through Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale Senior Living Abby’s residence.
Abby noted, "It was a wish come true. I'm still on a high. Carl was wonderful!"
Carl gushed, “It was a joy being with her and remembering old times again. I felt young again for a little bit. It felt like time froze. I live one day at a time. I try to live every day like it is my last day on earth. To me, tomorrow is today.”
Gail Barberi, Carl’s daughter, noted, “My favorite part of the trip is when they first saw each other and had that feeling of pure joy. They couldn’t let go of each other.”
One woman who read their story wrote: "This is absolutely awesome! Still making special memories with special people!"
Another woman said: "What a wonderful and beautiful story! Happy they are together again."
