Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, and Goldie Hawn lineup in a row and give one of the best performances of their lifetime.
If you haven't seen the classic flick The First Wives Club you'll want to run to Netflix and watch the full film. The unexpected 1996 hit opened at number one in the box office and revitalized the careers of the three actresses while solidifying them as cultural icons.
The film is about three divorcees whose husbands have left them for younger women. Instead of sulking about it, the three friends who met in college, decide to get a bit of revenge on their husbands.
No spoilers, but the final scene culminates in this wonderful performance of Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me."
I love revisiting these classic songs (like Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'," the video for which still stands the test of time).
Here are just some of the lyrics:
You don’t own me
I’m not just one of your many toys
You don’t own me
Don’t say I can’t go with other boysAnd don’t tell me what to do
Don’t tell me what to say
And please, when I go out with you
Don’t put me on display
Watch the classic clip below and SHARE if you didn’t know Diane Keaton had a voice like that!
