Ellen Fleming, a Massachusetts State House reporter for WWLP-22News, is having her 15 minutes of Twitter fame this week. The reporter shared a charming blooper video of herself covering a serious moment — when her very heavy Boston accent slipped out.
In the video, Fleming says, "Parts of this bill are similar to the executive orders that have already been put in place in New Hampsha." Meaning to say “New Hampshire," the reporter immediately realizes the mistake, pauses, and sounds the word out again.
The blooper was luckily not filmed live, so Fleming had the opportunity to do another take.
However, she did share the 10-second clip to Twitter. "Sometimes that Boston accent slips out when you least expect it,” she wrote.
The video has over 27 million views on the platform, and the reporter told Today that the attention has been amusing.
"It’s been a lot of fun. People certainly have their opinions on how they feel about the Boston accent, but it’s been mostly positive!" she told the outlet.
Fleming uploaded another video this week explaining that this is not actually the first time she’s gone viral. Fleming apparently had a situation occur where $1 million was transferred to her bank account by mistake. She posted that online, too, and it also went viral.
“There’s an Ellen Fleming down in Florida, living an alternate-universe life getting transfers of millions of dollars every now and again,” she said.
She explained that the 2018 incident happened because the bank confused the two names.
Fleming has continued to ride the Twitter fame train with a series of funny tweets after she gained many followers from the experience.
“If this many people are willing to follow me after watching me screw up, imagine what will happen when I get it right,” she tweeted.
“Shoutout to me for finally having a viral tweet that didn’t include a typo,” another one of Fleming's tweets read.
