Boy Feels Something Crawling Under His Skin, Turns Out To Be A Bug Growing In His Scalp

When going abroad, especially to countries with climates very different from yours, you're bound to make a checklist of all the tasks you need to complete before your departure. One of the most important things is getting all of the required shots and vaccines. The last thing you would want would be to fall ill after your vacation!

So when mom Jennifer Rindone and her family went on vacation to Costa Rica, she made sure that every precaution was taken. Everyone was to wear long sleeves and pants to protect themselves from bug bites — of course, without forgetting the insect repellent.

The trip went on without a hitch, and everyone had a great time. But just one week after their return, Jennifer's son, Andrew, complained about a bump on his head. And as the weeks went by, the bump grew larger and became itchy.

Then one day, as Andrew was lying on the couch, the mother made a horrific discovery: something seemed to be moving inside the bump and was peeking out ever so slightly through a hole.

Terrified, she rushed her son to the children's hospital, where a doctor revealed the unbelievable truth about the bump: It was where botfly larvae had called home.

The doctor successfully pulled the insects out, but says that he had never seen something like that before.

Mom is glad that her son is now healthy and larvae-free, but now she's warning other travelers to cover their heads while on such a vacation, too!
