Mom With Breast Cancer Can’t Nurse, Then Bags Of Breast Milk Arrive At Her Door

Getting diagnosed with cancer is never an easy experience. A cancer diagnosis affects not only the person diagnosed, but their family and friends, as well.

For one young mom, a cancer diagnosis meant that she would have to stop breastfeeding her 6-month-old son. The treatments she needed to begin would pose a threat to her baby.

Devastated, she called her friend Sarah Murnane to tell her what happened.

Just hours after she was diagnosed, she talked to Sarah about her fears and about how she could continue to feed her baby.

Sarah was heartbroken for her friend. That's when she turned to her Facebook page to ask for help.

Sarah, who is the cofounder of the Australian Breastfeeding Project, knew just what to do to help out her worried friend.

When Sarah found out her good friend couldn't breastfeed because of a breast cancer diagnosis, she turned to the Facebook page of her foundation, Australian Breastfeeding Project.

Although it primarily focuses on ending the negative stigma surrounding breastfeeding, Sarah knew it would be the perfect place to explain her friend's situation and get much-needed help.

So she put together a post asking for donor milk.

DONOR MILK NEEDED.

It is with tears in my eyes that I put a call out to help for my close friends find [sic] donor milk for her little boy as she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The project will be donating a deep freezer, which I am hoping we can fill with donor milk.

Her son has no intolerances but would prefer smoke, alcohol, and medication free.

Within days, Sarah had received an overwhelming response from breastfeeding moms who wanted to help.

In only 48 hours, she'd collected nearly 12 gallons of breast milk.

And although Sarah was blown away by the amount of milk she received so quickly, she knew her friend would still need more.

Luckily, with the amount she collected in just days, Sarah is hopeful she'll get even more donations.

Sarah believes that once moms see the impact they're making, they'll want to donate even more milk.

With any luck, Sarah will be able to get enough breast milk to supply her friend with another six month's worth of milk.
