Singer BriaMarie may not be what some consider a typical victim of bullying, but the Maryland native faced several difficult times in high school.
One on occasion, classmates threw volleyballs at her. Another time, other classmates sang cruel songs to her during cheerleading practice.
“It was devastating,” she said during an appearance on Fox 29 Philly. “It made me very self-conscious and really worried about what everybody else thought about me and fitting in with that group.”
The budding star joins the 3.2 million students who are bullied each year, including one student who was teased for growing his hair out. While some find ways to fight back, like the siblings who gave their bully a Bible, others aren't easily able to shake it off.
In turn, BriaMarie decided to help the bullied in a special way. The singer, who says she went to church and got saved, recorded a song to encourage others to learn to love themselves the way she did.
The song’s lyrics include, “Words can leave scars when you hear what people say/Close or they’re far cause it hurts the same way/But if you believe in your heart that God made you in this way/Then know that you’re perfect in who you are/Cause he made no mistakes.”
