One day, 9-year-old Adam Flowers was playing on the playground. A few older teenagers eventually began to bully him. One of them, a 16-year-old girl, even grabbed and held Adam in a headlock.
When Adam's grandmother saw what was happening, she called the police. The cops showed up and promptly explained to the bullies that what they were doing qualified as assault.
But Officer Trinicholas Carswell had something a little kinder in store for Adam.
The bullies were making fun of Adam's sneakers. He had worn the same pair of tennis shoes for two years, so they had become tattered.
Officer Trinicholas asked Adam's grandmother Carolyn about the boy's shoe size. A few hours later, they returned with a brand new pair of Nike Air Jordans — not a cheap pair of sneakers by any means.
"He saw the shoes and it was just pandemonium after that," Carolyn said back in 2016. "He was just super excited… I was just so overwhelmed and surprised and thankful that somebody cared."
Adam was so excited that he cleaned his shoes three times, then he slept in them. Needless to say, the gesture meant a lot to the kid. We have a feeling he'll be holding onto them for a lifetime.
"Police sometimes get a bad rap… But I haven't met those kind of police," Carolyn added. "The ones that I met this weekend was truly some people-kind-of-people, I like to call [them]. And they were super nice… They wanted to help with something they didn't really have to do."
