Spring is here, and it's time to get busy on DIY outdoor decor. Lately, I've come across quite an interesting idea of adding sound and beauty to my backyard with DIY wind chimes. There's nothing like listening to the chimes create a sweet song on a breezy day!
I really wanted a unique set of wind chimes to add some personality to my backyard, so I decided to make an adorable bumblebee wind chime. It's so much more fun to make your own instead of buying them at the store. There's no doubt that making your wind chimes is a lovely project that you can enjoy for years to come.
Wind chimes come in many different shapes and are constructed from various materials. While you can get as creative as you want, I opted to buy a Make Your Own Wind Chime set, so the process would go much quicker — and I'd be guaranteed a beautiful and peaceful sound.
Follow my step-by-step tutorial to see how quick and easy it was to make this adorable bumblebee wind chime.
Materials:
1. First, paint the planter until it is completely covered. Let dry.
2. Next, paint lines into the shape of a hexagon, so the planter resembles a beehive honeycomb.
Continue around the entire planter. Set aside and let dry for about 20 minutes.
3. String the chimes with yellow yarn, and tie a knot at the top.
Repeat this step with the other chimes.
4. Using a hot-glue gun, glue the string with the first chime inside the planter.
Continue to glue the other chimes to the inside of the planter. Arrange the chimes to your liking.
5. Next, tie a string around the bumblebee and glue to inside the center of the planter.
I let this one hang a little farther down from the chimes. Feel free to add as many bees as you like for yours. I decided to place an additional bee on top of the planter, to look like he was buzzing around.
Once you're satisfied with your layout, wait a few minutes for the glue to completely dry. (In the meantime, I made a second wind chime to complement this one.)
How you hang your wind chime is up to you. I glued a twine plant hanger that has a silver metal O-ring at the top, so it would attach to my plant brackets.
The bumblebee wind chimes look (and sound) lovely.
Don't you just love crafts that are so simple? I sure do. And this cute wind chime adds so much charm to my home.
