Mom Says Daughter Is Being ‘Segregated’ From Other Students At Lunch

Every day, 5-year-old Mia Lingrosso is separated from the other students at school. She is sectioned off at her own lunch booth and forced to eat alone. Her mother, Brandi Lingrosso, believes her daughter is being unfairly "segregated."

Brandi claims that after Mia was diagnosed with celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder which causes a gluten allergy, the school has taken drastic measures to prevent a reaction.

However, Brandi packs Mia a gluten-free lunch. The mother also says if Mia were to accidentally eat gluten, she wouldn't have a harsh reaction like having her throat close up.

“We wouldn’t have throat-swelling, it wouldn’t be a medical emergency, so it wasn’t necessary for Mia to be separated,” Brandi said.

Morever, Brandi is concerned Mia is internalizing the situation. During dinnertime, Mia began taking her plate and eating it alone rather than having dinner with the family. Mia is too young to understand, and therefore interprets being separated as her being bad.

To prevent the 5-year-old from feeling sad, Brandi began picking her daughter up for lunch every day and eating with her. Brandi understands the school has good intentions, but thinks they should more carefully assess the situation before making such a huge decision.
