Drivers in Southern California were in for a surprise when a green light appeared in the sky for a short period of time at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
One driver caught the rare sighting and shared it on his YouTube page. Of course it didn't take long for it to start going viral.
"On my way home and caught this on the freeway. The camera doesn't capture it very well, but the meteor was sparking a lot and had a green light to it," the user wrote.
The bright light lasted just a few seconds, but it had everyone asking what it could be possibly be. (The sighting came just a day before an unbelievable waterspout was seen in Northern California!)
"After investigation, U.S. Strategic Command’s Functional Component Command for Space… concluded that the information provided does not correlate to any of the more than 16,000 on-orbit cataloged objects tracked and listed in USSTRATOM’s Satellite Catalog and the publicly available website www.space-track.org. Therefore, we have determined that the re-entry of a man-made object did not occur at this time," the U.S. Navy Lt. Laura Stegherr of the U.S. Strategic Command said in a statement.
That leads experts to believe that it was a meteor. How unbelievable is that?!
