Prince William and Kate Middleton are sharing their thanks with the many who reached out following the death of Prince Philip. Several sources have shared the thank-you cards sent out to those who extended their condolences to the couple.

The note from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge surprised many with its emotional tone.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thank you for your kind words following the death of The Duke of Edinburgh. Their Royal Highnesses have been incredibly moved by the many thoughtful messages they have received in recent weeks," they wrote.

"They will all miss their much loved grandfather and great-grandfather, but your message has provided great comfort at this difficult time."

Prince Charles has also sent a warm thank you to those who extended their condolences to him. It included a black-and-white photo of Charles as a child in a boat with his dad.

"The Prince of Wales thanks you so much for your very kind message of sympathy. His Royal Highness has been enormously touched by the many generous messages that have been received in recent days; they have provided great comfort at this very sad time," the note reads.

"The Prince of Wales sends you his warmest thanks and best wishes."

Prince Edward and wife Sophie — the Earl and Countess of Wessex — chose a more relaxed photo of Charles for their thank-you note, which shows Philip in a hat.

"Thank you for your kind message of condolence," they wrote.

"We are extremely grateful for your thoughtfulness in writing at this sad time."

Queen Elizabeth's reply was kept short, which makes her pain at the loss of her husband almost more palpable.

"I send you my sincere thanks for your kind words of sympathy on the death of my husband," she wrote.

Since Philip's death, William and Kate have shared a number of photos of Philip with his great-grandchildren. It centers what the loss of Philip is to the younger generation who got a limited time with him.

"My grandfather's century of life was defined by service — to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family," William wrote.

"I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life — both through good times and the hardest days."

"I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her," he continued.

"I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!"

"My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead. I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job."
