Camden Vaughan and his baby brother were at home with their mother, Misty. Misty had been sick for a few days, but she didn't think it was anything serious. She assumed she had the flu, but when she went to take her temperature, what the thermometer read was completely unbelievable. The mother's temperature was a whopping 105.5 °F. In fact, reading that terrifying number was the last thing the mother remembered. She passed out, and what 4-year-old Camden did next is what saved her life.
He grabbed his mother's phone, unlocked it remembering the passcode from when he played games on it, he went into her contacts and saw his daddy's photo. He clicked the photo to call and when his father picked up, he delivered the chilling message.
"[He said,] 'Daddy, you need to come home! Mommy can't wake up,'" his father, Dr. Jeremy Vaughn told ABC News. The dad quickly called 911, then rushed back home. Misty had a seizure, the first one of her entire life. She was rushed to the ER. The mother had two more seizures after arriving at the hospital. Today, because of Camden, Misty is back home and recovering.
"My boys are my world and my gratitude is overwhelming," she said. "I just keep staring at them amazed at how different things could have really been for me. It's reminded me to enjoy the day-to-day tasks of motherhood again and not get bogged down with all the details in my life that in the end won't really matter anyway."
