Scrap Material Is Given A Second Life As Adorable And Quirky Little Robot Lamps!

Most people look at broken electronics and scraps of metal as just junk, ready to be tossed out and forgotten. But one crafter sees the potential in them for something new — and totally adorable.

Using broken motors and a host of other odds and ends from old machines, crafter and Etsy shop owner Captain Heartless has created a family of the cutest robots you've ever seen. And they're not just decorative; each one is a fully-functional lamp!

Captain Heartless dubbed his ever-growing family of robot lamps the HooverBots, since their main bodies are all made from old vacuum cleaner motors. His original creations stand about 40 cm, but he's been experimenting with larger motors for larger robots.

He's also been playing around with building his 'bots to have moving parts, such as spinning gears or waving arms. Though the HooverBots are still new, their creator is showing no signs of slowing down, and the family continues to grow.

Check out the HooverBot family below, and you might find yourself wishing for a robot buddy of your own!

Each robot is one-of-a-kind, with a unique construction and personality. They also each have names and biographies.

This one is Cook, who faces the unique challenge of loving to cook while, being a robot, having no sense of taste.

Her lights can dim and change color, too.

Brian is said to be serious, and known for coming up with genius solutions. Those ideas are evidenced by the light bulb on his head, which also helps his human friends.

The HooverBots even have a rooster friend named Kicky Ricky, who, despite being a chicken, is the orderly member of the family who settles disputes. His tail is a lightbulb.

Evangeline is rumored to be a spy from another planet, and her helmet is decorated with an old tea ball and a little star.

The numbers on her helmet are actually a voltmeter that shows the exact number of volts her bulb is using, changing when the bulb is dimmed or brightened.

Nestor's light appears in his mouth, giving him the illusion of having freaky glowing teeth, but Captain Heartless assures us he's quite harmless.

His eyes are made from speakers and are attached with magnets, meaning they can be moved to different parts of his body for a new look.

Like Brian, Jonathan has a camera for a head, which suits his artistic personality. Fascinated with humans, he prefers to spend time with them than with his robot brethren.

Emily is the baby of the HooverBot family, and it's her dream to be a dancer, which explains her stylish gold accessories (she wants to make she glitters on stage). Her large bulb is also dimmable.
