Two train passengers in South Korea survived a terrifying ordeal after they fell into a sinkhole. Security camera footage shows a male and a female getting off the train, and then suddenly, the ground beneath them gives way and they disappear into pavement.
According to reports, the two pedestrians fell roughly 10 feet but didn’t suffer serious injuries. They were rescued by firefighters and treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
The cause of the sinkhole in this instance remains unknown, but Seoul Metropolitan City officials and the Korean Geotechnical Society are investigating how it was created.
"It is still not known whether this was the immediate cause of the ground sinking," Cho Seong-ha, an official at KGS, said during a press conference. "We are planning to analyze the possibility through investigation. We are also planning to figure out other causes for the sinking by looking at various construction records and by investigating the site."
