1. The Beatles And The Monkees

Though any fan of The Beatles would expect the musical heartthrobs to despise The Monkees, a band who was formed for a TV show in response to the success of The Beatles' 1964 film A Hard Day's Night, the two bands actually got along quite well.

When The Monkees visited England, The Beatles greeted their American counterparts with open arms and even threw a party for them.

 

2. Salvador Dali and Coco Chanel

Given the creative talent of Coco Chanel and Salvador Dali, it's no surprise that the two were good friends.

Chanel often invited Dali to her home "La Pausa" on the French Riviera, where they dined with other well-known artists of the time and even painted several of his paintings in the late 1930s.

3. Princess Diana And Mother Teresa

Princess Diana devoted much of her time to helping the poor during her short life, and her and Mother Teresa's paths crossed several times while she was doing charity work.

The two were fast friends, connected by their commitment to making the world a better place, and they even collaborated to set up the Missionaries of Charity, a pro-life home for women looking to adopt their babies instead of abort them.

Upon Princess Diana's death, Mother Teresa said of her friend, "She was very concerned for the poor. She was very anxious to do something for them, and it was beautiful. That is why she was close to me."

4. Nancy Reagan And Mr. T

Nancy Reagan and Mr. T first met when the late First Lady recruited the professional wrestler for her Just Say No project, an antidrug campaign. Mr. T stayed heavily involved in the campaign through the 1980s, starring in public service announcements and even writing songs for the cause.

In 1983, Mrs. Reagan invited the actor-and-now-friend to glimpse the White House Decorations, where he donned a Santa suit and bonded with the First Lady.

Upon her passing in 2016, Mr. T tweeted, "I am not a Republican nor am I a Democrat, but I am just a Christian brother from the hood trying to do some good! I will truly miss First Lady Nancy Reagan. I will never forget her."

5. Prince And Muhammad Ali

In 1997, Prince met boxer Muhammad Ali — and the late 'Purple Rain' singer was beyond starstruck.

"Muhammad's my hero," said Prince. "He has been since I was a child. As you can see, he's such an inspiration to many people."

Ali's tribute to the legendary artist upon his death in 2016 proved that the feelings of admiration and love were mutual. "We've lost a true original," Ali tweeted. "Prince was someone who cared for others & used his genius to help many."

6. Helen Keller And Mark Twain

Despite their age difference, Helen Keller and Mark Twain were drawn to each other upon meeting at a lunch held in Keller's benefit in 1895.

Both were fiery revolutionaries, so it's no surprise that they became close. Upon their meeting, Twain asked his benefactor to fund Keller's education and played a big role in her ensuing success.

7. Samuel Beckett And Andre The Giant

These two are an especially unlikely pair, but sometimes chance has a way of bringing people together.

While Samuel Beckett was living in France in 1953 — the same year his novel Waiting for Godot was published — he happened to become friends with Boris Roussimoff, father of Andre the Giant.

According to stories Andre used to tell, Beckett would drive Andre to school in his pick-up truck after he outgrew the school bus and they would discuss cricket.

8. John F. Kennedy And Frank Sinatra

Upon investigating President John F. Kennedy's connection to the mafia, the FBI uncovered something entirely different: a friendship between the President and singer Frank Sinatra.

According to records, Kennedy spent a weekend at the singer's house in Palm Springs in 1960 and the duo had traveled together to Las Vegas and New York. Sinatra even had a plaque installed at his house to honor the President's stay at his residence.

9. Harry Houdini And Arthur Conan Doyle

You're probably thinking to yourself: What could the author of Sherlock Holmes and an illusionist possibly have in common?

Well, Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini were both keenly interested in spiritualism and life after death. The two became pen pals before eventually meeting in person around 1920.

Within a few years, however, the friends had a major falling out over the very thing that brought them together — the afterlife — and publicly fought through letters published in the New York Times.

In November 2008, rapper Snoop Dogg joined Martha Stewart on Martha to perfect his mashed potato techniques, and thus began an infamous friendship that has given us several episodes of Ellen and Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party.
