When it comes time for graduation, every student anxiously awaits for that slip of paper to finally be in their hands. Of course, it's usually just a placeholder for the real diploma you'll get in the mail later, but the ceremony is still a rush. I remember being so worried when I finished my senior year of high school that I'd fall in front of everyone. Considering my class had over 1,000 graduates, and each of them bring along all of their family to experience the milestone, it would have been more than a little embarrassing if I hit a snag.
Luckily, I was able to evade my clumsiness for the moment and made it all the way across without any incident. For Okmulgee, OK, teen Micah McDade, it was a much bigger deal to accomplish the simple act. Battling far more than just a lack of gracefulness, McDade suffers from cerebral palsy. His fellow students had only ever seen him rolling around the halls in his wheelchair, but he planned to give them a big surprise that evening.
Without letting on to anyone, McDade waited for his name to be called and found his way to the stage. However, instead of continuing on to the principal, he stops in his tracks and sets his parking breaks. That's when a staff member helped him to stand up and another brought McDade a walker to support him. The crowd instantly erupted into shocked cheers for this incredible young man.
