Hyperrealism is an incredibly difficult task to master. Artists study for years and years to be able to draw bowls of fruit as close to the original as possible, even if their end goal is to paint abstract shapes and colors. This is because all of the foundations of art lie in being able to see something and translate it onto a canvas. Picasso and van Gogh perfected realism before they were able to move on to their more conceptual pieces.
Anytime someone draws something so close to real life, I'm so impressed. Everything I draw ends up looking at least vaguely cartoonish! The next level, though? That would be all of those artists creating 3D illusions with pen and pencils. The images literally leap right out of the second dimension when you look at them from the right angle.
When the artist Howard Lee puts a hot dog down on a table, and picks up a pencil, I wasn't really expecting too much. However, as the time lapse moves on, the image appears to grow upward, right off the paper! As a vegetarian, I never thought I'd say these words… but this hot dog is truly beautiful!
Did you see the difference at first? Sure, you can tell something isn't the same, but I bet you did a double take!
