Tamira Thayne is the founder of Dogs Deserve Better, an organization that fights against inhumane treatment of dogs including chaining. She recently took to the steps of several state capitals where shined the light on the mistreatment many dogs face today.
According to the Humane Society, "Dogs (like people) are social animals, yet more than 200,000 dogs live empty lives chained or tethered outdoors. Tied-up outside, dogs become lonely, bored, and anxious, and they can develop aggressive behaviors. Bring a dog inside (or help a chained dog in your neighborhood) and you’ll keep everyone safer."
During a pivotal moment in the Indianapolis, Indiana leg, a wicked rain storm whipped through, leaving Thayne standing at the capital steps, chained to a doghouse, with rain falling down upon her. It was at that moment that her message hit home.
How many dogs still stand, chained, through severe thunderstorms, snow storms, or excessive heat before we realize it's wrong?
