"With every passing moment / Thoughts of you run through my head / Every time that I'm near you / I realize that you're heaven sent."
If those lyrics weren't doodled on your middle or high school diary, we probably wouldn't have been friends. Tamia's R&B classic was that song that you burned on a CD for your crush – and only your crush.
Rapper Fabolous covered Tamia's hit in 2000, but if you're a purist and prefer the original, you're going to love Childish Gambino's cover.
Needless to say, Gambino (pretty much the anti-Fabolous) kept it simple, abstaining from calling Tamia "baby girl" or rapping about spendin' a few thou' – although I may try to bring the abbreviation "thou" back. Keep in mind, this isn't a criticism of Fabolous – his video for Into You is a glorious example of everything that made music videos from the early 2000s so, err, fabulous – namely, infinity pools, pastels flowy dresses, very expensive boats, and white tack suits with matching headbands.
If you're like me and hate yourself for loving videos where rappers throw money around, you might actually love watching Lil Dicky doing the opposite!
Say what you will about his recent concert appearance in Australia, but I think Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, continue to prove himself as an artist. Please SHARE if you were so into this cover, too.
