Nowadays, if you want to obtain a college education, you have to be willing to make some enormous sacrifices. One arm, one leg, and one firstborn baby seems to be the going rate for an undergraduate degree these days.
So when the grace period comes to an end and the repayment bills start to roll in, many college graduates are forced to get a little creative in order to make ends meet.
In the case of Joel Weber, a student at the University of Texas at Austin, his freedom from debt came in the form of a house — a very, very tiny house!
Though the Tiny House Movement is nothing new — and doesn't show any signs of letting up soon — it's rare to find someone so young turning to teeny tiny living.
However, when I saw how brilliantly Joel's house turned out — and learned just how much money he's going to be saving — I was stunned.

Like most college students, 25-year-old Joel Weber was slated to graduate with a mountain of debt. But when Joel began to consider the many years of loan repayment ahead of him, the design major had a brilliant idea.
Joel abandoned dorm and apartment living, then drafted the plans for a 145-Ft² tiny home. He got to work soon after.
Now, for less than the price of a car, Joel is working towards his degree from the comfort of his very own home.
As he told Today.com, "I had spent some time in an apartment, but I wanted to feel ownership and invest in something that was mine."
"I've always had a fascination with living small. I loved tree houses when I was younger, and I don't think that dream has ever died."
But despite living small, Joel's home is spacious and comfortable. Many features of his tiny house can move, change, and act as storage.
And Joel isn't done yet. Soon, he plans on adding solar panels and a rain water collector.
"I want to design things that are more sustainable. I'm interested in doing anything where I can spread living a simpler life."
Much of Joel's inspiration came from his time in Central America, where he studied between high school and college. "I saw how small and simple the people there lived, and it was more about community."
Now, Joel hopes to help others design and build their own tiny home, so everyone can enjoy a cheaper, more stress-free lifestyle.
