Art is in the eye of the beholder. In fact, the work of Van Gogh, one of the most famous artists of all time, was considered pure rubbish until after his death.
Yet lots of art is made out of rubbish, trash, or everyday objects. It just takes a truly creative person to look at something like a wine cork, closet, or straight-up debris and see its potential. A true visionary can open up their junk drawer, see what many consider a weed of an object — something that’s just cluttering up their everyday lives — and transform it into a flower.
Case in point, Tuomas Markunpoika is one man who can spin everyday utensils like colored pencils into pure gold. Well, not actual gold — we’re using “gold” as metaphor, or, an element of language art — to preference awesome creations that are actual, physical art.
The fruits of this man's labor are so lovely, I don't think I can go on another moment without owning one! Plus the process of creating them is truly fascinating…

He glues colored pencils to a sheet. What the—
Once he has a few layers of colored pencils, he shapes them into a sort of cylinder…
Then, he uses a machine lathe (check out the video below for the full AND AMAZING effect) to smooth all the jagged edges into a smooth shape that looks an awful lot like...
...a vase!
A really gorgeous vase, actually!
He designs these vases in a variety of different colors.
Once these gorgeous adornments are varnished to a gloss, it's hard to believe that they started as a bunch of colored pencils.
But look closely at the unique details the pencils provide.
Who knew that a tool to create art could be used to make a completely different type of art?
