Cop Finds Frantic Parents Panhandling For Sick Child, Then Tells Only Dad To Get In His Car

In 2012, a concerned citizen called police about a New Mexico couple panhandling at a bus stop. It was freezing cold outside, and wrapped in a bundle of blankets was with their little baby girl.

Officer Luis Hernandez responded to the scene and learned the heartbreaking reason this couple was desperate for money. Just before Christmas and with one week's notice, they got the call that their two-year-old daughter needed to get to Denver for life-saving heart surgery. They had enough money for the mother and daughter to travel, but needed money for a bus ticket so the father could go, too.

With their medical expenses building up, the couple struggled to make ends meet. The father couldn't imagine staying home and not being with his family at the hospital.

"Even if there's just a one iota percent chance that I'd never see my daughter again, there's that chance… And I wouldn't miss that for the world," he told KRQE.

Touched by their story, Officer Hernandez was reminded of his own child who had recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. What he did next made the worried father's jaw drop.
