Thank God for the police! Not only they do keep our communities and families safe, but they sometimes do so in very surprising ways.
Dallas Police Officer Albert Sanchez got a call over the radio that there was a car driving erratically through the streets, speeding. As fate would have it, he saw the SUV speed right past him. He turned on sirens and pulled the car over only to find a frantic pet parent, and her 13-year-old Brittany Spaniel asphyxiating in the back seat.
The pup's owner, Carolina, said she didn't know what to do when Scrappy started having difficulties breathing. Scrappy the dog already suffered from cataracts and had difficulty walking, so when his tongue and gums turned blue, Carolina place him in the car and raced to the hospital, waging war against rush hour traffic.
A dog owner himself, Officer Sanchez immediately knew he had to help out Carolina and Scrappy. He placed them both in the back of his cop car, turned on his sirens and they zoomed to the animal emergency room where Scrappy was placed on oxygen. The officer even took time wait with Carolina until she could calm down and be assured that Scrappy was going to be alright.
