Wisconsin Cops Buy A New American Flag For A Veteran’s Widow

Police officers in Wisconsin are going viral for going above and beyond for the widow of a war veteran.

The woman called the department to report the American flag she hung in the front of her home had gone missing. She kept the flag there in honor of her late husband who fought in World War II.

The officers could've simply written a report and been on their way, but they decided to go the extra mile for the elderly woman. In turn, they bought the woman a new flag, in an act of kindness reminiscent to the cops in Cleveland who replaced a teen's stolen bike.

Three officers were photographed on the woman's front stoop putting the new flag back in its place.

The department shared the heartwarming pictures on Facebook and they received an overwhelming reaction — they were shared more than 35,000 times and liked by more than 57,000 viewers in just a few days.

"Last night, a local west side resident reported her flag stolen from in front of her home. She hung it up to honor her husband, a WWII vet who recently passed away," the Green Bay Police Department wrote on Facebook along with the below photos.

"GBPD Officer Rob Ecke heard the story and went out and purchased a new American flag to post on her house.

Thank you to Officers Ecke, Thoreson, Lt. Strouf and Capt. Muraski for righting this wrong."

The moment meant the world to the widow, who was devastated when the flag was stolen.

"She was extremely emotional. She was crying when we had gone there," Officer Ecke told Green Bay's WBAY. "I told her it wasn't her same flag, but it's still the same 50 stars on it."

And she wasn't the only one who appreciated the department's kind gesture: more than 2,000 people commented to praise the officers.

Among the comments was also one from a woman who said she is the widow's oldest granddaughter (shown below).

She said the officers' work was "greatly appreciated."
