2 Officers Find Suspicious Empty Car On Road, Then Follow Trail Of Footprints Into A Swamp

Two police officers in Rutland, Massachusetts, are being hailed as heroes after they followed their curiosity… and a pair of footprints.

On March 16, Officers Brent Carpenter and Sam Perrotto were responding to a 911 emergency call. While driving to their destination, they noticed a car on the side of the road.

It was completely devoid of passengers, but it still had its emergency flashers on.

"At that point, we both knew there was something not right," Officer Perrotto said.

They looked around and quickly noticed a trail of footprints leading from the car down to a swampy area.

After checking the vehicle's information, they learned it belonged to a local couple. However, the wife was not at home when they contacted them.

They began to follow the footsteps, and it was then that they heard a voice.

"We heard a yell, the woman saying 'help me, help me,'" Officer Carpenter said.

The officers quickly sprang into action and found the 70-year-old woman partially submerged in the swampy snow, holding on for dear life to a tree.

The two officers rescued the woman with the help of the fire department. She was found freezing but alert, and is now recovering.

Without the help of Officers Carpenter and Perrotto, this story may have had a much more tragic ending.
