Despite facing serious illnesses, 45-year-old Arlie Smith is always smiling. In fact, he refuses to stop working at the Costco in Danville, CA, because he believes it's his mission to bring a smile to every customers' face and brighten their day.
Smith, who was diagnosed with primary progressive MS (multiple sclerosis) and is battling terminal bone cancer, loves his job so much that he's become a friend to customers. Amazed by his positive outlook on life, customers decided to repay their favorite Costco employee with the surprise of a lifetime. For someone working full-time on the minimum wage and living paycheck to paycheck, it's always amazing to see people rewarded for their hard work and dedication — like this waitress, a single mom, who got a $1,200 tip on just a $128 tab!
Costco customers, or "Arlie's Angels," as they call themselves, showed up at the store and presented the worker with $2,500 for him and his wife to take a four-night getaway to Laguna Beach.
Smith with overcome with emotion and overwhelmed by his customers' generous act of kindness.
"They're priceless, they're irreplaceable," he said about his customers to KTVU.
"Everything that's done for me and the love that's shown for me, every day, it's astounding. I mean, people don't have this great of a life, really," he said.
