Engaged Couple Asks Strangers To Pay For Their Dream Wedding After Groom-To-Be Loses His Job

These days, everything can seem expensive. Rent, college tuition, and even a cup of coffee all seem a little overpriced.

However, some of the things that cost the most are special occasions that people spend their lives dreaming about. This goes especially for weddings.

Today, the average wedding in the United States costs around $26,000, according to Cost Of Wedding.

Some people may manage to pull off an incredible budget-wedding, but most if not all couples can usually use a little help.

One couple from Saskatchewan, Canada, are seeking help from the public to make their dream wedding come true. This includes strangers and especially corporate sponsors.

The idea may sound a little strange to most people. Who would think to ask people they don't know for help?

With that said, you might change your mind when you hear about Jason Mielke and Rebecca Winter Hansen's moving love story.

Jason and Rebecca met in a university library in 2015, according to CBC.

He was in the library, contemplating a difficult series of events that had brought him back to his hometown, Regina.

In that context, the seemingly impossible happened: he met his one true love.

On their website, Jason explains:

….My body and spirit were back in Regina, the place where my pain became so real again, and here, walking towards me, was the “Girl of My Dreams” – the other piece of the puzzle to making a God – Given Destiny happen.

Right away, Jason knew right away that his life was going to change.

The couple quickly fell in love and wanted to get married, but their financial situation did not exactly match up with their aspirations.

Jason lost his job in January 2016 and knew they would struggle to pay for their dream wedding.

That is, until one day when Jason found inspiration from an unlikely place.

He tells LittleThings:

The inspiration in my creating our webpage was sparked by finding $10 on the ground, when I only had a few cents left in my pocket. I said to myself, “This 10 dollars must be a sign that it will be multiplied by 100,000 if I stop procrastinating sharing my story with the world.”

The story certainly is an incredible one. Both Rebecca and Jason have dealt with abusive relationships in the past.

In fact, they met at university library by chance when both were attempting to change their lives for the better.

Interestingly, Jason and Rebecca's idea to crowdfund their wedding is not in the traditional sense, but rather to seek corporate sponsorships from companies for some very special wedding gifts.

Their wish list includes:

  • wedding dress
  • winter shawl
  • wedding shoes and jewelry
  • purse
  • hair and makeup for the bride and maid of honor
  • pre-spa services
  • ring for the groom
  • tuxedos for groom and best man
  • red carpet

The full wish list for the dream winter wedding can be found on their website here.

The idea may seem a little unconventional to most people, but we can certainly hope that Rebecca and Jason's dream winter wedding becomes a reality.

The date is set for November 25, and sponsors are invited to come celebrate with the couple.
