Musicians always have a particular attachment to their favorite instruments. Take, for example, artists like Willie Nelson, who loves his old guitar so much that he even gave it the name Trigger. It's a fitting title considering the frame includes a bullet hole, something that helps give his tunes a distinct, signature sound. The weathered instrument also features the signatures of several of his famous musical friends from over the years, too.
Of course, it's not surprising considering how much time the performers spend with their music-makers. That's something the man in the video below can attest to as he spent most of his life dedicated to mastering the clarinet. So much so, in fact, that he has long ago earned a title for himself as a "virtuoso." Born and raised in Turkey, Serkan Cağrı began playing the woodwind while he was still in primary school.
But for the little ditty he plays here, he chose a more unique method of playing. Rather than pick up one of what I'm sure are several beautifully crafted clarinets lying around his house, he went to the vegetable garden, instead. Grabbing a cucumber from the vine, he hollowed it out, added a few holes along the side, and placed a reed on top.
Sure, it sounds silly, but when you hear the sweet melody he's able to create from the ordinary gourd, you're likely start looking at your salad toppings much differently from now on. I know I was impressed by how clear and fluid a sound he was able to produce.
