Cute Baby Seal Cuddles Up To Tourist

Canadian Charlene Fritz enjoyed the special encounter at Snow Hill Island in the Antarctic Peninsula. While observing the wildlife, a 2-month-old baby elephant seal emerged from the water and gave Fritz one big cuddle.

The seal was only two months old but already weighed a whopping 200 lbs, but Fritz didn't let that get in the way of the magical moment. Fritz, who recorded the footage in December 2011 but has only just released it, made sure not to directly touch or approach the animal in accordance with advice. But it soon became clear that this playful baby seal was infatuated with her and wanted some love and attention. At one point, the seal even goes in for a wet kiss!

"The seal climbed on top of me without hesitation. We shared a very sweet moment in time I will never forget," Fritz wrote on Facebook.

Baby elephant seals are often left unattended by their parents until they pluck up the courage to head out to sea.

It's beautiful to see wild animals interacting so lovingly with humans — and reminds me of the sea lion who invited himself aboard a sailboat to take a nap on a man's lap for an hour. These rare encounters with docile wildlife are truly incredible to see.
