Ten years ago, Noah Galloway woke up in the hospital on Christmas Eve to discover that his left arm and leg had been amputated. But the retired army sergeant refused to let his disability prevent him from living life to the fullest.
Galloway, now 33, is trying his luck on the dance floor as a competitor on season 20 of Dancing with the Stars alongside pro-partner Sharna Burgess.
“0 left feet > 2 left feet!” he joked on Facebook shortly after ABC announced the new season’s cast members.
Galloway voluntarily left the University of Alabama to join the military right after the attacks on September 11, 2001. On Dec. 19, 2005, he was traveling in a vehicle that was hit by a roadside bomb during his deployment in Baghdad, Iraq. After a long time in rehabilitation, Galloway became depressed and withdrawn because of his circumstance. But, he soon picked himself up and adopted the motto “No Excuses.” He's now a motivational speaker and a personal trainer, who “doesn’t take excuses from his clients.”
The father-of-three also launched the No Excuses Charitable Fund to raise money for various organizations, including Operation Enduring Warrior, which helps wounded veterans.
“I would tell another injured veteran, you got to set out to prove everyone wrong,” Galloway said in a video for BioTech Limb and Brace. “Everything you do, you have to take it one step further.”
