Baby Can’t Keep His Eyes Open, Then Mom Realizes Day Care Worker Drugged Him

A Texoma mom, Leslee Meade, says her “heart sunk” when she learned the terrifying truth about her local daycare. One day, she dropped her 6-month-old at Sue’s Day Care, and when she picked him up, he was drowsy and could barely keep his eyes open.

Meade knew something was wrong. Then she got a phone call from the Sheriff’s office confirming her worst fear.

“We’ve been investigating Sue’s Day Care here in Durant, OK, for alleged child abuse charges for giving children Benadryl to assist them to go to sleep at time,” says Jeff Wilson, an investigator with the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2013, another day care owner was charged with the death of a 4-month-old infant after dosing her with Benadryl. According to Wilson, former employees confessed to the Department of Human Services that the owner was coercing them into drugging the children.

“They’ve come and confessed to what was going on in the day care and all stated that they were ordered to give this by the owner,” Wilson said.

Sue’s isn’t the only day care under fire for negligence. Just recently, another daycare was in the hot seat after closing up shop and leaving an infant locked inside — alone.

As any mother would be, Meade was mortified. “My heart sunk,” she said. “What she was doing was messing with everybody’s lives. Had something happened it would have changed everybody’s lives forever.”

Meade’s son wasn’t the only victim: six other children have been identified so far. Benadryl should never be given to infants, as the drug can cause small children to stop breathing.

Sue’s Day Care is currently shut down and under investigation by DHS.
