Deborra-lee Furness spoke to the media for the first time following the announcement that she and Hugh Jackman are separating after 27 years of marriage. On Monday, September 25, cohosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson of Australian radio show The Kyle & Jackie O Show "accidentally" called Deborra-lee while on air. Much to their surprise, Deborra-lee actually answered her phone.
When Deb answered the phone, the cohosts claimed that they "didn't mean to actually call [her]." "We have actually called you by mistake, it's ridiculous. Seriously, this isn't a stitch up," Kyle said.
The cohosts assured Deb that they wouldn't question her at that moment, and that they hoped she was doing well. They also added that they "love her."
Deb responded with: "Thank you, guys. I really appreciate it. You're really sweet."

Their conversation didn't last much longer than that. Kyle continued to assure Deb that they didn't want to make her uncomfortable by asking too many questions too soon after the split, which was just announced earlier this month.
"I just feel it's too soon," Kyle said. "I don't want to get involved in anything. But we love you, and you ring us when you want to chat." Deb kept her response brief, saying, "Thank you, guys. I really, really appreciate it."
Many fans were shocked when Hugh and Deborra-lee announced that they were separating. They were together for nearly three decades, and in April, Hugh posted a heartfelt message about Deb on Instagram to celebrate their 27th wedding anniversary.
"I love you Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life," Hugh wrote in the post back in April. "Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart."
Many fans went back to this post after the divorce announcement to express their shock and concern.
"Well, this was 4 months ago," one Instagram user commented on the post. "I just read that you and your wife are separated or separating? WTH? If you two don’t make it, there’s very little hope for the rest of us."
Another wrote: " You guys can fix this! Nearly 30 years, don't let it go "
Hugh also wrote a sweet message about his wife for Valentine's Day this year. In an Instagram post, he wrote, "Happy Valentine’s love. You light up the room wherever you go … your humor, generosity, wisdom and spirit shines so bright. I celebrate you on our 28th Valentine’s together. I ❤️ you."
When announcing their decision to separate, Hugh and Deborra-lee released a joint statement, noting that it was the only statement that either of them would make.
"We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," they said in a statement shared with People. "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."
