It was a cold night for a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, bus driver named Denise Wilson. She was deciding whether she should keep driving and finish her shift early or take a break to rest for a bit.
In the video below, posted on February 23, 2017, Denise explains, "I wasn't going to stop. I was going to keep going."
Suddenly, something inside her urged her to take that break — and thankfully, she went through with it.
She pulled over, and as she stepped off the bus, she heard loud screaming coming from outside. Then, she saw a very unexpected sight.
"I looked over to where the sound was coming from and it was him — he was running up the street hollering," Denise says.
A little boy was wandering outside on his own in 20 °F weather.
Denise recalls: "He had little shorts on and no shoes on, so I picked him up and ran across the street to the gas station."
Soon, Denise returned to her vehicle carrying the little boy, who was now wearing a shirt from the gas station they had just visited.
"He was crying. I said, 'It'll be OK, it'll be OK. Stop crying, stop crying,'" Denise says.
The devoted driver turned up the heat on the bus and wrapped the lost boy in her own coat before giving him a snack and calling the police. She learned that the boy had left his home by mistake in the middle of the night and ended up several blocks away.
Denise proudly says, "Sometimes God puts us in places, you know, where he needs us. And I think a lot of us bus drivers out here, we always seem to be in the right place."
