A mother and father have a heroic deputy and police dispatcher to thank for the successful birth of their healthy baby girl.
Dallas Schneiderman called in with an emergency birth situation. His wife, Janna, was about to give birth to their baby, but he didn't know what to do. Then, he found himself speaking to a dispatcher whom he would soon thank.
"He said his wife was in labor and that contractions were coming fast," Minihaha County 911 Dispatcher Jason Harris explains in the video below, posted on January 30, 2017.
He continues,"I told Dallas that we were going to start the process of delivering the baby." He was met with a long pause from Dallas on the other end of the line.
While Jason provided Dallas with specific instructions and helpful steps, Minnehaha County Deputy Chansey Ford received a call for her to head to the Schneiderman's house in Baltic, South Dakota.
"I remember thinking on the way there, I'm like, 'Oh, maybe I'll get to deliver a baby,' but then I was like, 'Yeah right, that never happens.'"
Deputy Ford was the first of the contacted police officers to arrive at the Schneiderman home. From there, she took over for Dallas and guided Janna through the birthing process. Only the baby's head had popped out. She encouraged her to push, but it was no use: the baby wouldn't come out.
Suddenly, Deputy Ford reached for the baby's shoulders and pulled. Thanks to Deputy Ford's quick thinking and extra effort, a baby boy named Pippon Schneiderman was born.
The knowledgable deputy recalls, "I started shaking and just… oh my gosh, that just happened."
Soon paramedics came to check on the baby, but the Schneidermans would never forget what Dispatcher Jason and Deputy Ford had done for them that day.
