A single design has the power to be all at once functional, beautiful, and purposeful.
Recently, Instructables user M.O.T.H. set out to build himself a chair that was equally as practical as it was lovely, and whose construction would waste very few superfluous materials.
He targeted a minimalist design, and quickly picked bamboo plywood as his choice building material. This creative designer then shaped a single sheet of bamboo into the chaise lounge chair of his dreams.
Outfitted with two additional stabilizing pieces underneath, and hundreds of halved, upcycled cork segments on top, he created a modern, eco-friendly masterpiece that likely sparks all sorts of interesting conversations between him and his guests.
This builder created a unique piece of furniture that beautifully delivers on his simplistic vision.

When Instructables user M.O.T.H. set out to build himself a new chaise lounge chair, he decided early on that he wanted produce a piece that was all at once functional, striking, and eco-friendly.
With these qualities in mind, he chose to build a minimalist-inspired bamboo chaise lounge, which he would form atop a mold.
His first task was to build said mold.
Designed in accordance with the human body's natural curvature, this builder constructed a mold using pieces of wood cut with a CNC machine.
He made sure to adhere each piece with loads of glue, to withstand the vacuum seal the whole structure would subsequently endure.
Once his mold was set in place, this builder cut his bamboo plywood sheet in half.
He smothered one side of one half in wood glue, and laid the other half right on top.
Then, he laid the bamboo atop his form, sealed a vacuum bag around the entire project, and extracted its surrounding air.
After 24 hours' time, he released the pressure from the bag, and pulled out his now-molded bamboo plywood.
He then secured the first additional, structurally stabilizing piece of bamboo plywood onto the chair's underside.
With that first stabilizer screwed in place, he ran a support beam, length-wise, underneath the chair as well, to act as its strong, steadying backbone.
Supports in place, now it was time to add on his upcycled cork seat.
This upcycler accummulated roughly 600 used corks from a nearby winery. Then, he created a specially size jig, so that he could run each cork through his bandsaw, one at a time.
This craftsman then laid each cork in place, carefully checking and rechecking their alignment as he went.
After securing each cork to his chair with glue, his gorgeous new design was complete!
Thanks to his skillful planning and expert craftsmanship, this designer absolutely followed through on his intentions, and constructed a beautiful and practical chair.
By repurposing old corks, and limiting his additional building materials, he also kept his project environmentally friendly.
This DIY-er created a gorgeous new chaise lounge chair with eco-friendly materials that he'll surely enjoy all season long.
