Cat Owner Converts Closet Into An Incredible Litter Box

I am a self-admitted crazy cat lady, so in my humble opinion, cats make the best pets. They're easy to take care of, fun to play with, and super cuddly.

The only downside to owning a cat? The cat pan. It's almost a bigger responsibility than taking care of the cat itself!

Cat pans can be bulky, especially the ones with rooftops to keep the smell from escaping. Typically, they're easy to hide in a laundry room or guest bedroom, but cats inevitably toss sand everywhere and the smell is hard to contain. So what's a cat lover to do?

One smart DIY-er we found on Instructables came up with a brilliant idea to keep smells and sandy feet at bay. By cleverly hiding the cat pan in a linen closet and creating an opening for the kitties of the house to come and go as they please, the cat pan issue was resolved!

The DIY-er started off by choosing a self-contained closet with an internal wall.

Then, very carefully, he cut out a hole in the wall to act as an entrance to the new cat pan.

Next up was the framing around the interior and exterior of the hole in the wall.

He didn't want it to look unfinished, so he went to his local home improvement store and purchased a nice white molding that matched his home's interior.

After cutting the molding down to the proper size, he glued the pieces around the exterior of the hole in the wall.

The new white trim makes the cat pan entrance in the hallway look as though it was made to be there in the first place!

Next, the DIY-er worked on the shelving unit inside the linen closet.

The shelf was intended to rest on top of the can to hold supplies like cat sand and scoops.

After using a stud finder to locate solid anchoring points for the shelf supports, he easily slid the plywood shelf into place.

The cat pan area is now totally contained, easy to clean, and holds everything any cat owner could need for upkeep!

The DIY-er's cat seems pretty pleased with his new private restroom as well!
