With Halloween fast approaching, party supply stores are stocked to the brim with dazzling, festive costumes.
Many parents choose to buy their kids' costumes in one of these shops, but many opt to make their own beautiful costumes, like the dad who designed the perfect costume for him and his baby boy.
Similarly, Instructables user David Yakos and his wife dove into a DIY project to make their son his dream costume.
Their little boy wanted to be a live action figure, but had to have several very specific features and accessories.
After spray painting clothes, a pair of boots, gloves, and a toy gun a bright emerald green, Mom and Dad pieced together a truly remarkable costume.
The best part is that they ended up having to spend very little on this costume. That's the benefit of making things from scratch at home!

For Halloween, David's little boy wanted to be an army man. So, mom and dad got to work and made him the most brilliant, precious "plastic army man living statue" costume.

They started by picking out clothes, props, and cutting out a quarter-inch beadboard plank for the base of the costume.

Eventually, all the materials would get spray painted, so it didn't matter what color they were. They gathered big sister's old pink boots and gloves, a pair of pants, and an undershirt for painting.

They made sure not to choose items with material that was too absorbent.

After the clothes were covered with a green John Deere spray paint, they were hung on the line to dry.

In addition, they also chose to spray paint a Nerf gun, a helmet, a belt, and a pair of binoculars for the costume.

The next step was getting the tyke ready to wear his costume. They used a water-based green face paint to cover his face, ears, and neck completely.

Next, his hair was spray-painted a vibrant green. Dad suggests not using a neon-colored paint, but to find a shade that matches the rest of the paint.

The cleanup was simple. Both the face paint and hairspray were incredibly easy to wash out, and they didn't hurt his eyes.

This is what the full costume looks like — pretty neat, don't you think? The board isn't attached to his boots, so he can easily pick it up and walk from door to door when trick-or-treating.

We loved this brilliant costume. Just goes to show how innovative and resourceful all parents can be!
