Carpenter Creates A Stunning DIY Spiral Staircase In His Home Using Plywood

There's something magical about a crafty man or woman with the skill to transform hard, rigid wood into beautiful works of art.

Of course, we have power tools now and other helpful techniques to make the task a little easier these days, but there's still a lot of patience involved when it comes to making something unique from the natural material. That also means they have to have plenty of love behind each project, something that definitely shines through in every finished product.

As someone who's a bit too accident-prone to be near anything remotely pointy or harmful, I generally steer clear of heavy duty ideas like this beautiful wooden spiral staircase. That said, I was totally in awe of how gorgeous this design turned out that I am actually super tempted to find someone who's more handy than me to make it a reality in my home, too!

Take a look below, and I guarantee you'll feel the same way.

Designer Ben Uyeda used a CNC machine to cut out each of the planks of 3/4-inch plywood into the shape of the steps, the blueprint for which he shares on the HomeMade Modern website.

He will be stacking 12 of them in a gradual incline for all of the individual steps.

For the base, he had a three-foot steel pole welded to a half-inch plate which he then installed in his home.

Next was the most tedious and time-consuming aspect of the project, layering the plywood and applying it to the pole. Uyeda used both construction adhesive and wood glue to secure the planks.

As you can probably imagine, adding each step took a ton of perseverance and attention to detail in order to make sure the resulting staircase would be safe enough for everyday use.

Before sanding and staining the finished product, Uyeda added a platform to complete the access to his outdoor patio. He also added an accent by painting the bottom of the plank with a shade of bright turquoise.
