When Cindi Tousel dropped her dog off at local PetSmart she had been going to for years, she expected it would be a routine visit. When she dropped off Gracie, her 6-year-old Newfoundland, she instructed the groomer not to dry Gracie with heat, because Newfoundlands are typically very heat sensitive.
When she came back a few hours later, Gracie looked sick and could barely walk. After she collapsed on the sidewalk, Cindi took her pet to an emergency vet, where she was told her dog had been exposed to too much heat, and her organs had shut down.
While the company that provided the grooming says they are looking into what happened, this story should be a big reminder to anyone who drops their dog off for care. Always make sure you check the establishment, interview everyone who works there, and go with your gut. If something tells you not to leave your pet at a certain place, look for help elsewhere.
Our hearts go out to Cindi! Please SHARE so others can think twice when it comes to dropping off their pets, and to warn about the grave dangers of heatstroke.
