The ASPCA reports that thousands of dogs die every year from heatstroke after being left in cars. It's incredibly dangerous, as it doesn't even have to be that hot outside, and it can happen very quickly.
Not only that, but there are always stories about animals being stolen from cars and then sold for profit — it happened recently to an Elvis fan who went to visit Memphis. She left the dog in the car just long enough to grab some dinner, and when she came back to the car, he was gone.
The video below was posted by a man who heard loud honking outside of his office building. He went to check it out and found that a French bulldog had been left in the car and was honking the horn to get some attention. Not just honking — he really leaned in to it.
It was apparently pretty cool outside, so the threat of heatstroke was minimal, and the dog's lack of panting suggests that he wasn't hot. Also, soon after this video was taken, the dog was let out of the car. That's why some people do think that the dog's reaction is funny. I think my dog would react the same way. Why bark when the car can do the barking for you?
Still, it is a dangerous situation, so please SHARE this video as an important reminder that dogs shouldn't be left alone in the car.
