It's common for couples without children of their own to treat their dogs like real babies. That was the case for Molly, a West Highland terrier, and her owners — that is, until Michael McGowan and his wife began expecting their first human baby in 2017.
But Michael, who lives in Glasgow, decided to make something special for his pup. In his words, he wanted to build Molly "a room of her own under the stairs before the baby arrived."
He isn't the first person to utilize the space under the stairs, but Molly's room is certainly one of a kind.
Michael enlisted some help for the project. The incredible result earned him and tradesman Paul McArdle a Project of the Year award from MyBuilder.com.
"I had a small idea, and wasn't even sure if it would be possible to achieve," Michael said of the room. The final product speaks for itself.

Michael shared his progress on Bored Panda:
She is the best wee dog who had been very spoiled up to this point, so we didn’t want her to feel less important when the baby arrived!
And here is the proud big sister with baby Catelyn!

Michael began by investigating whether the space behind the stairs was indeed empty.
"Space cut out… I can now see what space we have to play with," he captioned this picture.
He also explained that there was a lot more space on the inside than he'd initially expected, around four square meters.

Michael was initially concerned that Molly would be scared of the space, but as you can see, it's definitely big enough for the little Westie.

Next came installing the door frame, plastering, sealing, and most notably, adding the doggy wallpaper.

Michael also shared a view from inside the room during the transformation.

"Molly waiting patiently as I had to finish the tongue and groove outside her room first," Michael said of this photo.
The dad also installed mood lighting for Molly's room, which explains the green glow coming from the door.

This step involved putting down the flooring. As you can see, it was tough to keep Molly out of her new room before it was finished.

In this photo, you can see that Michael adorably placed "pictures of Molly at school with her friends."
It's looking more and more like a real room for a human as the project progresses!

Molly also clearly has plenty of other toy friends that she doesn't have to wait to see at "school."
Michael got her a personal mini couch because she loves the big family one so much.
One thing is for sure, this "very spoiled" dog definitely lives in this room.
