Hero Dog Runs For Help After Accident Leaves Owner Paralyzed

Paul Horton was out biking with his loyal dog Yogi near their Lake Travis, Texas, home in 2010 when Horton hit a bump and flew off his bike. When he came to, he realized he couldn't move — the accident left him paralyzed. In that moment, he turned to his dog for help.

"I was telling him, 'Yogi be like Lassie. Go tell them I'm hurt,' " Horton recalled.

Yogi ran miles away to go fetch neighbors and get his owner the help he needed. The dog headed back to the main road, where Horton's neighbors Bruce and Maggie Tate were walking. The dog barked frantically and was behaving oddly. The Tates knew something was wrong and followed Yogi to Horton.

Although Horton is now quadriplegic, he is grateful to still be alive — thanks to his fiercely loyal and heroic golden retriever.

Almost five years after the accident, Horton leads an active life, sailing and kayaking on the water and hang gliding through the air!

"I've always done that well. rarely mope around and say why did this bad thing happen to me. Just, okay, accept new realities and move on," he said.

In addition, his senior dog Yogi hasn't left his side. The pair even have started a daily routine of singing together next to the piano.

Although there may be no way for Horton to ever repay Yogi for his heroic deeds, the family hopes to give him a fulfilling life and make sure he's happy and comfortable.
