The project is called "Spy Drones Expose Smithfield Foods Factory Farms" and the video is absolutely shocking. Since 2012, the director of "Speciesism: The Movie" has been secretly using spy drones to investigate and expose the environmental devastation caused by factory farms. In this video, the drones capture disturbing aerial footage of several massive facilities that supply pigs for Smithfield Foods.
According to the video, the animals we eat are grown inside giant hidden factories like the one here. In just a few days of filming, hi-tech drones were able to expose a reddish lake full of toxic pig feces and urine the size of four football fields. Thousands of pigs live in the farm next to the lake. Their waste falls through slats in the floor, which is then flushed directly into the giant cesspool. The lake inevitably fills up and must be emptied — by spraying the liquid waste and creating a fine mist that can drift downwind into the neighboring communities.
In North Carolina alone, the video notes there are over 2,000 of these farms.
