Fourteen-year-old Dutch schoolgirl Laura van Kaam utterly astounded the judges of The Voice Kids back in 2013. While it took a few years for her raw talent to make its way across the Atlantic ocean, after watching her stunning rendition of Dolly Parton's epic love song "I Will Always Love You," you'll easily understand why she deserves to be listened to by Europeans and Americans alike.
While a Dutch teenager doesn't seem to be a likely vessel for the southern style and sounds of the Grand Ole Opry, there isn't much you can say after you hear her sing and play her guitar! Some people just seem to have that "old soul" and just easily understand the passion behind the song they're singing.
In fact, we're not even sure if she can actually speak and understand the English language, but that doesn't seem to matter, because at the end of the day it's all about the spirit of the song, and this girl has that spirit!
It's no surprise that Laura van Kaam went on to win the second season of The Voice Kids, and while she's enjoying a prolific career traveling around Europe, we think it's about time she comes to Nashville and shares her talents with our most venerated musical stage. Bringing some of the spirit of the old country while combining it with the heart and soul of the South, this girl could very well create her own new special genre of music!
Congrats to Laura, and best of luck in her future career — we hope to see you in the States soon!
