The rabbit from Donnie Darko was pretty terrifying, but he's got nothing on these 13 horrific Easter bunnies visiting from the very depths of hell.
The rabbit is an old pagan symbol that eventually inherited an association with the Virgin Mary. Many assumed that the hare could reproduce without losing its virginity, so over the years it became associated with the virgin birth. Along with their prolific breeding during the spring, the rabbit (and bird eggs) eventually came to represent fertility during the growing season.
The idea of an Easter Hare came from Germany, and was originally depicted as a large rabbit that judged whether children were good or bad that year, much like Santa Claus. The idea eventually evolved into the Easter Bunny bringing baskets of candy, treats, and toys for good boys and girls!
So, while you're busy boiling and dying your Easter eggs, just know that somewhere past the tree lines there lurks a huge and evil creature. The Easter Bunny will rush out of no where and eat anyone who dares to venture out alone in the wilderness…or something like that.
