Decorating Easter eggs has always been one of the best ways for families to have fun together while celebrating the holiday, but the ideas below totally switch things up from the regular dyes you usually find at the store.
These creative Easter egg ideas will definitely inspire the imaginative side of everyone in the family as they gather for the festivities this year! They're all totally easy to do, even if the end results look like you spent hours hunched over the hollowed-out or hard-boiled shells.
You can even use fake eggs on some of these in order to keep them around for every Easter to come.

1. Nail Polish Marble
All you need is lukewarm water and any nail polish you'd like, then swirl the colors together with a stick and dip the hollowed-out eggs, using a push pin to hold each egg.
You might see some water bubbles at first, but they'll disappear as the eggs dry.
2. Shaving Cream Tie-Dye
You'll need a lot of foaming shaving cream and then some ordinary food coloring. Add a bunch of drops of the various colors to the cream, then dip your egg into the foam and make sure it's fully coated.
Let them dry for about 20 minutes and then gently remove the shaving cream.
3. Paint Galaxy
This one is great to do with kids because you pretty much can't go wrong. All you need are a few different brushes for different textures and acrylic paint in spacey shades.
After layering on the darker and metallic colors, splatter on specks of white for the stars.
4. Napkin Decoupage
You can find napkins in all sorts of patterns for this genius trick. Simply use the decoupage glue to layer pieces of the napkin over your shell, using it under and over the pieces.
You can also print off photos or use tissue paper for more creative options.
5. Speckled Rice Dye
Place uncooked rice in a container with a lid, then add a drop of food coloring and about half a teaspoon of water and mix them together.
Then place the hard-boiled egg inside and shake, careful not to crack the shell, and remove gently with a spoon so you don't smudge the dye.
6. Felt-Stemmed Carrots
This cute idea couldn't be easier! Dye or paint your eggs orange, then simply cut some green felt and hot glue to the top.
7. Rubber Band Stripes
Before dipping the eggs into dye, loop an elastic rubber band around the shells in different patterns for this unique look.
8. Wrapped In Sequins
It looks like you spent hours painstakingly applying one sequin at a time, but you can really get the look by hot gluing a ribbon of the glittery beads all around the shell.
9. Cracked Dye
This trick is totally different from all the others you usually see — instead of dying the shell, it's the hard-boiled egg white underneath that gets this stunning pattern after giving the shell a few cracks before dipping into dye.
10. Temporary Tattoos
This might be my favorite! Just follow the instructions of the temporary tattoos to apply them to the egg shell just as you would on your skin.
11. Bunnies And Chicks
All you need is hot glue to put everything in place and a Sharpie to add details, then these delightful little guys will be all set!
12. Glitter Polka Dots
You can use ordinary glue for this, but you can make things easier by picking up some glue dots from the craft store to keep things nice and neat. After covering the dots with glitter, use a paint brush to gently remove all the excess for a beautiful result.
