From the Dunkin’ Donuts red velvet latte to red velvet-scented candles, the craze is pretty much everywhere. There’s seriously something about the moist red sponge cake and that hint of cocoa that’s become an American obsession.
While chocolate lovers would probably love to try this Nutella popsicle sticks recipe, or this one for sweet crepes, but those foodies with a weakness for red velvet must make this next treat below.
Host Brandi Milloy shared a really simple recipe for what she calls red velvet mug cake. The best part: It’s cooked in a microwave within minutes!
Aside from a mug, all you’ll need are these ingredients:
- 6 Tbsp milk
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp cocoa powder (she used Hershey’s)
- 3 Tbsp vegetable oil
- ¼ tsp salt
- 10 drops of red food coloring
- 4 Tbsp mini chocolate chips
- 1 Tbsp cream cheese
As shown in the clip, make sure to add the mini chocolate chips and the cream cheese after you stir the previous contents on the list together.
Milloy suggests that you cook the cake for about five minutes. When she takes it out of the microwave, she also adds some powdered sugar and some heart sprinkles. The end result looks scrumptious!
