What could Elvis Presley and former president Jimmy Carter possibly have in common? How about a sixth cousin once removed?
That's right, the King of Rock 'n Roll and the President of the United States of America were actually related! According to genealogists, it all dates back to a German ancestry from the 17th century.
In an ironic twist, Carter was serving at the nation's 39th present on Aug. 16, 1977 – the day that Elvis died. In a statement issued the day after his death, Carter said of the King, "His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture."
It can't be too far of a stretch that these two are related, especially since Carter was known at the "peanut president" and Elvis had a love affair with fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches!
