Doctors Turn Away Anorexic Girl Close To Death, Then Her Mom Says Puppy Might Save Her

Dogs are many people's best friends. They're our pets, but they're also our companions, our comfort, and our little slices of happy wagging at the door after a bad day at work.

Sometimes our pets can give us purpose and happiness more than humans can.

Emma Carlill, 21, would definitely agree with that statement.

Suffering from anorexia for years, she was at the doctor's office one day and they turned her away.

They told her mom upon every visit, that her weight loss was "a phase," and that she was too thin to be treated. That last time they sent her home, her mother thought she was actually going to die.

So, in an effort to help her feel a purpose of some sort and realize that she had to change her life, she bought Emma a dog.

His name is Pogo, and the inspiration he became for Carlill is a story she wants to share with the world.

This adorable fluffy dog became Carlill's reason to live.

Pogo got her through all of the ups and downs and continues to be there for her, even through her recovery.

Pogo has even learned how to detect Carlill's anxiety, and runs to alert someone if her stress ever seems to get overwhelming.

Without question, Pogo is Carlill's best friend and she might not have survived without him.

Which is exactly why she's trying to start a charity to help others with their mental health and eating disorders.

This initiative started with a Facebook page, where people can talk and get help online, but she hopes that it becomes much more than that.

Her tattoo is a clear example of just how committed she is to the cause, and just how thankful she is that Pogo came into her life.

Carlill wants to help others find companions like Pogo too, so they don't have to go through their journey alone either.

"Not many people know about eating disorders or the impact they have on people. There isn't the help available, but I want to keep raising awareness and I want to save people's lives," Carlill told SWNS.

A local newspaper featured her for the great work she's trying to do for others.

She knows what it's like to go through what so many people are going through.

And she knows that it's rarely talked about, so she wants to become that voice and listening ear.

With her family by her side, her health improving, and her happiness continuing to grow (thanks to Pogo), there is nothing that can stop her!

Another day that we're reminded just how special our four-legged friends are, and just how many silent battles strangers might be facing every day.

Be kind, always, and help spread the word about this young girl's amazing effort to save others.
